WhatsApp first-contact message templates that get replies, not reports

How to write a first WhatsApp message to a new lead that gets a reply instead of getting reported.

Reaching out to someone on WhatsApp before they've messaged you first is a delicate move — done well, it opens a real conversation; done poorly, it reads as spam and risks a block or a report, both of which hurt your number's standing with Meta over time.

The templates that work share a few traits: they identify the business clearly in the first line, they reference something specific to why the person is being contacted (a form they filled, an enquiry they made elsewhere), and they ask one simple, low-effort question rather than opening with a pitch.

A weak version: 'Hi, we are XYZ business, we offer amazing services, check out our offers!' A stronger version: 'Hi, this is [Name] from [Business] — you enquired about [specific service] on [platform]. Are you still looking, or has that been sorted?' The second gives the recipient an easy, honest way to respond either way.

This only works, and stays compliant, when there's a real reason the person is being contacted — a genuine enquiry, a callback request, an existing customer relationship. Reaching out cold to a purchased or scraped number list is a different category entirely, and is both a policy risk and, increasingly, a legal one under India's data protection rules.

For a business handling this at any real volume, having three or four of these first-contact templates ready — one for the most common first-touch scenarios — means every new enquiry gets a consistent, well-worded opening message instead of whatever a busy staff member types in the moment.
